The Apollo Theatre Rhythm & Blues Study Guide

Focusing on 40’s and 50’s, moving from the era of Swing to the era of Rhythm and Blues, this resource discusses how race played a role in the production of music, specifically R&B. It has a specific section titled “Race in Rhythm and Blues” (p. 6). This resource notes instruments and musical elements that are relevant to the style of music. Additionally, this document discusses prominent Black musicians from the era which students could choose to study. This study guide focuses in on the ways that music can be listened to, shared, produced, and how R&B influenced the music industry.
